Greece’s Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias stated that Greece fully supports Iraq’s unity and territorial integrity and condemns all illegal incursions into Iraqi territory, which Turkey calls “peacekeeping operations,” reports Greek City Times.

“Within the framework of good neighbourly relations, we insist that countries must avoid any threat,” said Dendias during a joint statement with Iraq’s Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, and stressed that Greece aims to promote peace and prosperity. Within this framework, yesterday’s “Philia” conference was organised jointly with seven other countries. Dendias stressed that the conference is not directed against anyone and is simply an effort of multilateral cooperation, and it is open to all countries that respect international law and support the strengthening of stability in the region.

Dendias noted that Greece fully supports Iraq’s unity and territorial integrity and condemns all illegal incursions into Iraqi territory, which are known as “peacekeeping operations.”

Greece believes that bilateral disputes should be resolved peacefully and on the basis of international law.

The two ministers agreed on a next meeting, within the framework of which Dendias will visit Baghdad, Erbil and Basra. Iraq’s Foreign Minister described relations with Greece as historic and stressed that his country particularly appreciates Greece’s support in the fight against terrorism.

During the meeting, trade issues were discussed, particularly in the energy sector, and how Greek companies can make investments in Iraq. Iraq’s Foreign Minister noted that Greek companies can focus their attention on Basra, where there is a port.
