Garo Paylan, the Armenian deputy of Turkey’s opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), has stated that the murder case of Hrant Dink, founding editor-in-chief of the Agos newspaper, is being covered up. He stressed that political will is needed to uncover the truth of this murder case. This was reported by Ermenihaber.am.
“Unfortunately, for 15 years we have been condemned to live without Hrant Dink, who constantly preached living together,” Paylan declared in parliament.
“In those days, the darkness within the state had decided to silence Hrant Dink, and on 19 January 2007, Hrant Dink was killed in an organised crime. A murder in which the state was complicit,” the deputy said, stressing that the Turkish state has still not confronted its inner darkness.
Paylan also referred to the statement made months ago by Turkey’s Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu during a live broadcast, from which it was implied that Erhan Tuncel, convicted in the Hrant Dink case, has ties with the notorious Turkish crime figure Sedat Peker.
“Eight months have passed since that day (Soylu’s statement – ed.), no prosecutor has taken up the matter, and Suleyman Soylu has not gone to the judicial authorities to state what he knows about it. Even this shows that the will to keep Dink’s murder in the dark still persists in Ankara’s dark corridors,” he emphasised.
