The Pentagon’s statements about delivering a “decapitating strike” on the Kremlin are, in essence, about the threat of physically eliminating the President of the Russian Federation. This was stated to TASS by Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
“Washington has gone to the furthest extreme. There, certain ‘unnamed officials’ from the Pentagon have in effect threatened to deliver a ‘decapitating strike’ on the Kremlin, which is, in essence, a threat of the physical elimination of the head of the Russian state. If anyone truly harbours such ideas, they should think very carefully about the possible consequences,” said the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
According to him, the West’s policy in general is aimed at the comprehensive containment of Russia and is fraught with the danger of a direct military clash between nuclear powers.
Lavrov stressed that the West constantly engages in “irresponsible speculation that Russia will supposedly soon use nuclear weapons against Ukraine.”
The Russian minister emphasised that Moscow again reiterates that there can be no winner in a nuclear war, “and it must never be unleashed.”
