There is a nationwide strike in France against the government’s initiative to raise the retirement age by two years.
This was reported by “Azatutyun.”
Due to the strike, electricity production has been reduced, most public transport is halted, educational institutions, a portion of school teachers have also joined the protest demonstrations, as have the employees of some television companies, as a result of which music is being broadcast instead of daily news bulletins.
The trade unions organizing the strike intend to continue pressure on the government, which proposes setting the retirement age at 64. Polls indicate that the majority of the French oppose the proposed change, but President Emmanuel Macron is not backing down, insisting that the reforms are “vital.”
