One of Constantinople’s Squares to Be Named After the Balyans

A commemoration of the Balyan family, the most renowned Armenian architects of the Ottoman Empire, took place at the Armenian Surp Khach Cemetery in Istanbul’s Üsküdar district. Attending the event were the Armenian Patriarch of Constantinople, the mayor of Istanbul, and prominent figures of the Constantinople Armenian community. Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu attached great importance to the architectural work of the Balyan family, stressing that it enriched Istanbul’s cultural heritage.  The mayor of Istanbul emphasized that he would do everything in his power to have one of the squares named after the Balyans. A commemoration of the Balyan family, the most renowned Armenian architects of the Ottoman Empire, took place at the Armenian Surp Khach Cemetery in Istanbul’s Üsküdar district.

Attending the event were the Armenian Patriarch of Constantinople, the mayor of Istanbul, and prominent figures of the Constantinople Armenian community.

Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu attached great importance to the architectural work of the Balyan family, stressing that it enriched Istanbul’s cultural heritage.  The mayor of Istanbul emphasized that he would do everything in his power to have one of the squares named after the Balyans.

Archbishop Sahak Mashalian, Armenian Patriarch of Constantinople, expressed satisfaction at the mayor’s initiative.

It should be noted that the Balyans were the most renowned architects of the Ottoman Empire. The Balyans built magnificent palaces, bridges, mosques, churches, and buildings of various purposes in Istanbul.
