Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of Russia, has stated that Russia does not recognize the decision of the International Criminal Court regarding cases of war crimes committed by the Russian army in Ukraine, wrote Kommersant.
The New York Times had reported the previous day that the International Criminal Court is preparing to bring criminal cases regarding war crimes and will request arrest warrants for several individuals.
“We do not recognize this court, we do not recognize the jurisdiction of that court. Such is our attitude toward it,” Dmitry Peskov told journalists.
According to The New York Times, the International Criminal Court plans in the near future to bring the first two cases against Russian military personnel for committing international war crimes in Ukraine. It is not yet known who will be charged in each case.
Reuters has also reported that the International Criminal Court is preparing to arrest Russian officials on charges of forcibly deporting children from Ukraine and attacking civilian infrastructure.
