Moscow is calling on the parties in Nagorno-Karabakh to exercise maximum restraint, not to allow the intervention of external forces, and to work practically toward a ceasefire, de-escalation of tensions, and the resumption of negotiations, Russian Foreign Ministry official spokesperson Maria Zakharova has stated, as reported by RIA Novosti.
“During the past week, the situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone has remained tense, with mutual shelling observed along the entire line of contact between the parties’ fighting forces, and civilian structures also targeted. We call on the parties to exercise extreme restraint, to refrain from striking the civilian population, and not to allow the intervention of external forces. It is necessary to work practically toward a ceasefire, de-escalation of tensions, and the resumption of negotiations, in order to reach a peaceful settlement based on fundamental principles,” Zakharova said during a briefing.
