From February 1-12, Turkey will conduct military exercises in Kars, near the Armenian border, with the participation of Azerbaijani soldiers, according to Radio Azatutyun. Turkish media report that the exercises will include the testing of new weaponry.
Turkey and Azerbaijan last conducted joint military exercises in July, a few weeks after clashes began on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. Those large-scale war games took place across the entire country, including in Nakhichevan, Baku, and Ganja. Units of both ground forces and air forces from Azerbaijan and Turkey participated.
According to some sources, after those exercises Turkey left a significant portion of its weaponry and groupings in Azerbaijan to coordinate the planning and implementation of an offensive operation against Nagorno-Karabakh, Azatutyun noted.
