The United States Senate moments ago unanimously approved Resolution No. 150, introduced by Senator Robert Menendez, condemning the Armenian Genocide.
No senator placed a hold on the vote on the resolution this time. In recent months, three different Republican senators — Kevin Cramer, David Perdue, and Lindsey Graham — had blocked the resolution on three occasions and prevented it from being placed on the Senate agenda.
It is noteworthy that all three senators were not in principle opposed to the adoption of the resolution, but stated that the time was not right. In the intervening months, the Armenian National Committee of America had undertaken nationwide work in favor of the resolution and toward securing a vote. All senators were the focus of attention of Armenian voters through their organizing efforts.
Incidentally, about an hour before the vote, Kim Kardashian also responded to the call of the Armenian National Committee, and on her Instagram page urged her approximately 135 million followers to call the senators’ offices and demand a yes vote on the resolution.
It should be recalled that, independently of this resolution, the US House of Representatives had also adopted a document of nearly identical content.
