The monument to the great Armenian composer Komitas has been defiled in Paris. This was written on her Facebook page by user Angela Kjdtryan.
“Vandalism during the days of the ‘Corona’ virus…
On the statue of Komitas, which symbolizes the Armenian Genocide in Paris, they wrote ‘It is a lie’,” she wrote, and posted a photo of the monument.
It should be noted that such flagrant acts of vandalism against Armenian monuments have become frequent since the Tavush clashes on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
In 1983, the Armenian community of Paris appealed to the city hall, requesting the construction of a monument dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide and the great Armenian composer Komitas Vardapet.
The four-meter-tall bronze statue is placed on a pedestal two meters high. Work on the construction of the monument began in January 2002 and was completed on 22 April 2003.
Written on the monument is: “In memory of Komitas Vardapet and the 1.5 million victims of the Armenian Genocide of 1915.”
