Varoujan Vosganian, deputy of the ALDE party and president of the Armenian Union of Romania, called on Parliament during a plenary session of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies to adopt a political declaration recognizing the Armenian Genocide.

As reported by Armenpress, citing the Agerpres agency, he made the statement during discussions on the draft law concerning the establishment of the National Museum of Romanian Jewish History and the Holocaust. “We have a unanimous position on the condemnation of the Holocaust. I ask that the recognition of the Armenian Genocide be included in the agenda of Parliament’s parties and in a political declaration. This is a topic that Romania’s parties have so far avoided. There are dozens of parliaments in the world, the European Parliament and the parliaments of all European countries that have issued such declarations recognizing the Armenian Genocide,” said the president of the Armenian Union of Romania.

He stated that no tragedy of such proportions “has a mother tongue.” “When we speak of such a tragedy, we are at the same time speaking of all the tragedies of the world, and no such tragedy has a ‘mother tongue.’ It is for this reason that I believe the recognition of the Holocaust should be proportionally accompanied by a political approach to the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, which, although it had no museum in Romania, since this Genocide did not take place on Romanian territory, but on the contrary, Romanian territory had become a paradise for all those who had been saved from the Genocide, yet this brings the idea of the challenge of equal healing of all such wounds of humanity,” added Vosganian.
