The US Embassy, at NEWS.am’s request, has commented on publications in the American press according to which Senator Lindsey Graham blocked the Senate resolution on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide at the request of the White House.
In response to NEWS.am’s inquiry, the embassy stated that they are aware of the publications. “The US Embassy has seen the publication you mentioned. The resolution in question is part of an ongoing legislative process, and at this time we refrain from commenting.
The position of the United States on this issue has not changed; we mourn the 1.5 million Armenians who fell victim to the deportations and massacres in the final years of the Ottoman Empire and pay tribute every year so that this dark chapter of history is never forgotten,” the embassy’s statement said.
Let us recall that according to the Axios periodical, when the senator came out after a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a White House staffer asked him to return to the Senate and block the resolution.
