After US President Joe Biden’s recognition of the Armenian Genocide, Turkey must immediately establish full control over the Incirlik air base and return the American troops stationed there to the United States. This opinion was expressed by Dogu Perincek, chairman of the Homeland Party, in an interview given to a TASS correspondent on Saturday.
“The Turkish armed forces must immediately establish full control over the Incirlik military base and send the American soldiers stationed there home within 15 days,” the politician is convinced.
This is not the first time in Turkey that discussions have arisen about the possibility of closing this military base to American soldiers. Usually, such rhetoric from Ankara arises in light of threats from Washington, but the matter has not yet reached any concrete step in that direction.
