Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlut Chavushoglu has given an extensive interview to the Turkish news outlet “Habertürk,” touching upon the likelihood of the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by US President Joe Biden. This is reported by Ermenihaber.
On this subject, Chavushoglu made the following emphatic remarks: “On the April 24 issue, the US itself must also respect international law. The definition of genocide is given in UN resolutions and is clearly described. The ECHR also has rulings on this matter. There are also the rulings of the constitutional courts of various countries.”
According to his assertion, if the US respects international law, then they should not have to go to sleep and wake up every day thinking about this.
“We must rid ourselves of some of our fears and complexes. What is it — must we die every night, or tremble in fear (from that thought)? I am not saying this in the sense of ‘America, brother, whatever you say, say it.’ However, we, as a state that knows its history, must be confident in ourselves. If the US wants to worsen our relations, the choice is theirs,” said Turkey’s top diplomat.
