Frank Pallone, co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues, has introduced a resolution in the House of Representatives with 30 bipartisan members, calling for the recognition of the independence of the Republic of Artsakh as a foundation for lasting peace in the Caucasus region.
According to the Armenian National Committee of America, the resolution also condemns the ongoing attacks by Azerbaijan and Turkey against the Republics of Armenia and Artsakh, calls for an end to the provision of military aid to Azerbaijan, urges that Artsakh become a direct participant in the negotiations taking place within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship, and, in general, also calls for easing the existing restrictions in the sphere of communication between the United States and Artsakh.
“It is very important that the House of Representatives come forward with a clear message of support for Artsakh and its people’s goal of living independently, especially on the eve of the important meetings of the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan with Mike Pompeo. As this bloody conflict continues, it is time to finally recognize Artsakh’s legitimate demand to live independently and to officially recognize that people’s right to free self-determination,” declared Pallone, the author of the resolution.
“In the process, we must also take firm steps to hold Azerbaijan and Turkey accountable for their aggression and to create a lasting solution that resolves the issues of Artsakh’s status and security. The introduction of this resolution will help us proceed along that path,” noted the congressman.
