Karen Dunford, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs at the United States Department of State, discussed the situation in the region and the normalisation of relations between Baku and Yerevan during a telephone conversation with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov on 27 March. This was reported by Azerbaijani media outlets.
Dunford emphasised the importance of normalising relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia for regional peace and development, expressed concern over the recently heightened situation in the region, and called for all issues to be resolved through negotiations. It was noted that the American side is ready to support the peace process.
Bayramov informed Dunford about the situation in the region, stressing that Armenia is allegedly resorting to “non-constructive approaches” that hinder negotiations on a peace agreement. According to him, “Azerbaijan is ready to begin negotiations on a peace treaty at any time.”
