The work published by two Israeli historians has caused a great stir in Turkey. The Turkish website “Haber” writes about this, noting that it concerns the volume titled “30 Years of Genocide: The Destruction of Turkey’s Christian Minorities (1894-1924)”, co-authored by Israeli historians Benny Morris and Dror Ze’evi, which was published on April 24, 2019.
The book states that approximately 4 million Armenians, Greeks, and Assyrians were massacred by order of the authorities of the Ottoman Empire and the Republic of Turkey.
The Israeli authors drew for their work on the studies of the renowned Turkish historian of the Armenian cause Taner Akçam, genocide scholar Raymond Kevorkian, church, national, and public figure Grigoris Balakian, and Turkish historian Fuat Dündar.
The historians have reached the conclusion that the events of 1915-16 are well documented, and that calling the crime of 1.5 million victims a genocide is entirely justified.
Meanwhile, the first and last periods of the 30-year timeframe, in their view, require broader study.
