On September 9, the reopening of the permanent exhibition will take place at the Museum of History of Armenia, with the official opening of the hall titled “In the Footsteps of Ancient Man: The Stone Age.”

The exhibits will range from stone tools made 1.8 million years ago to various notable finds from the 5th millennium BC. The exhibition particularly includes high-value Stone Age specimens from various archaeological sites in Armenia, among them a hand axe dating back 500-300 thousand years, a stone axe dated to the 6th millennium BC, and a small clay vessel dated to the 5th millennium BC, in which ochre pigment powder has been preserved and which was used by prehistoric man, especially during burial rites.

The exhibition will also feature the leather shoe discovered during the 2008 excavations of the “Areni-1” cave, which is dated to 3600-3500 BC. It will be displayed in a display case providing special stable conditions for the shoe, made possible thanks to material support provided by the Government in the form of a grant.

The exhibition is organized in cooperation with the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, the “Areni-1 Cave” Scientific Research Foundation, the “Arms” shoe enterprise, the “United States of Armenia” national-patriotic public organization, and other partners.
