Tension is high this morning at the entrances of the parliament in Georgia, following a statement by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili. Police initially barred opposition deputies and media representatives from entering the parliament building. Later, they managed to enter the session hall.
Opposition deputies have occupied the speaker’s chair and declared that they will not allow parliament to continue its work until the prime minister resigns.
Following all this, clashes broke out between members of the ruling and opposition parties, escalating into a brawl, with media representatives also receiving blows.
It should be noted that at today’s government meeting, Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili addressed yesterday’s protest demonstrations in Tbilisi, during which protesters were demanding the prime minister’s resignation. He stated that he does not intend to resign, and that the blame for the unrest in the country lies with former Georgian Prime Minister Mikheil Saakashvili and his supporters.
