“The transfer of Zangezur to Armenia” led to the geographic fragmentation of the Turkic world, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev declared at the meeting of the Turkic Council in Baku.
“We are doing everything possible to ensure the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan,” Turkish President Erdogan declared at the same meeting, adding: “As a result of the occupation of Azerbaijani territories, more than one million people today live as refugees.”
The 7th summit of the Turkic Council is taking place in the Azerbaijani capital, for which the presidents of the member countries Turkey, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, as well as the Prime Minister of Hungary, whose country holds observer status, have arrived in Baku.
The conference taking place in Baku is dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking States. During the main session, the parties signed a number of documents, in particular on establishing investment, Turkic culture and heritage funds and a chamber of commerce and industry, and also adopted a joint declaration.
As a reminder, the Nakhchivan agreement on the establishment of the Council was signed in 2009 by the presidents of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
Speaking on this, Aliyev declared: “As you know, Nakhchivan is separated from Azerbaijan. Between us lies historical Azerbaijani Zangezur, whose transfer to Armenia led to the geographic fragmentation of the Turkic world.”
He also stated that in “Azerbaijani territories” Armenia is “destroying mosques,” and for that reason Armenia cannot be considered a friend of the Islamic world.
