US President Donald Trump has threatened to “destroy Turkey’s economy” if Ankara oversteps the bounds of what is permissible.
“As I have already clearly stated previously, I now repeat that if Turkey takes any step that, in my great and unsurpassed wisdom, crosses the line, I will completely destroy and annihilate Turkey’s economy, as I have done in the past,” the US President wrote on his Twitter page.
According to Trump, European countries, Turkey and others must take charge of the captured fighters of the “Islamic State” and their families.
“The US has done far more than anyone could have expected; we have 100 percent broken the caliphate of ISIS. Now others, who also have great capabilities in the region, must protect their own territory,” the US leader added.
In a statement issued by the White House after Trump’s phone conversation with the Turkish official, Erdogan, it was said that Turkey bears responsibility for all ISIS militants who have been captured over the past two years.
