The US Senate acquitted Donald Trump during the vote on his impeachment case, reports CNN.
The country’s president was acquitted on both charges brought against him by the Democrats — abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
48 congressmen voted in favour of finding Trump guilty of abuse of power — 47 Democrats and 1 Republican, Mitt Romney. 67 votes were needed to remove Trump from office.
The vote on the second charge ended with a 53:47 ratio. Republican Senator Mitt Romney voted in favour of Trump’s acquittal on this point.
It should be noted that the main vote on the impeachment of US President Donald Trump took place on 5 February in the Senate (6 February in our time).
Let us recall that Trump is the third president in history against whom an impeachment procedure has been initiated. Two charges were brought against him — abuse of power and obstruction of Congress’s investigative work.
