Armenian weightlifter Karen Avagyan, a member of the men’s national team, became the European champion, while Andranik Karapetyan took third place.
According to Armenpress, in the men’s 89 kg category at the European Championship taking place in Moscow, Andranik Karapetyan’s first two attempts in the snatch were successful — 165 kg and 170 kg. However, he failed to lift 175 kg. With this result, Karapetyan became the winner of the small bronze medal at the European Championship. Armenia’s other participant, Karen Avagyan, completed all three of his attempts flawlessly (165 kg, 170 kg, 175 kg) and won the small gold medal.
In the clean and jerk, Karapetyan lifted 195 kg overhead, then failed to lift 200 kg and 205 kg. In this discipline, Karen Avagyan lifted 200 kg but could not lift 204 kg.
With a total of 375 kg, Avagyan became the European champion, Georgia’s Revaz Davitadze took second place, and with a total of 365 kg, Andranik Karapetyan is third at the European Championship.
It should be noted here that this European Championship is a qualifying event for the Tokyo Olympic Games.
