The transfer of jihadists from the Middle East to Mountainous Karabakh could lead to the emergence of a terrorist zone in the Transcaucasus. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova.
Zakharova emphasized that there is information that members of international terrorist organizations are currently moving from the Middle East to the conflict zone in Mountainous Karabakh. The reference is to extremist mercenaries.
According to Zakharova, they adhere to the ideology of jihadism: “All this cannot but cause us serious concern, because in the long term, such a development of the situation is fraught with the emergence of a new terrorist zone, this time in the Transcaucasus.”
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has once again called for preventing the intervention of external forces in the military operations in Mountainous Karabakh. The official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, also added: “During this week’s briefing, the situation in the conflict zone in Mountainous Karabakh has remained tense, with mutual shelling recorded along the entire line of contact. Civilian structures have also been targeted. We call on the parties to show extreme restraint, to avoid strikes against the civilian population, and to prevent the intervention of external forces.”
According to Zakharova, practical steps are needed to cease fire and reduce tension, and to return to negotiations for a peaceful settlement on the basis of fundamental principles. The official representative of the Russian foreign policy agency also recalled that in this context, on November 1-2, the President of Russia held numerous negotiations with the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Last evening, the President of Russia discussed the Karabakh issue with the President of Belarus during a telephone conversation.
