Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev today, 2 March, stated in Baku that the UN Security Council is ineffective and in need of reform.
“The UN Security Council is reminiscent of the past and does not reflect present reality. The composition of the Council must be expanded so that it becomes more representative and geographically more just,” said Aliyev, speaking at the summit of the Non-Aligned Movement’s COVID-19 response communication group.
He stressed that “the world is now witnessing the most serious confrontation between East and West since the end of the Cold War.”
“The new world order is in a phase of transformation. The whole world is now witnessing the most serious confrontation between East and West since the end of the Cold War. The consequences of this confrontation have remained significant for the world. Today, more and more cases of violations of sovereignty and territorial integrity, and interference in the internal affairs of states, are being observed,” said the Azerbaijani president.
The Azerbaijani president also called on France to accept responsibility “for bloody crimes” and to apologise. He specifically said that the territories administered by France outside Europe are “the abominable remnants of the French colonial empire.”
“We also call on France to accept responsibility for its colonial past and bloody colonial crimes and genocide in Africa, Southeast Asia and other places, and to apologise,” said the Azerbaijani president.
