The plane carrying the evacuated staff of Azerbaijan’s embassy in Iran has landed in Baku, local media reported.
Baku has called “absurd” the Iranian side’s statement that the incident at Azerbaijan’s embassy in Tehran took place on family and domestic grounds.
Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov told journalists that the diplomatic activity of Azerbaijan’s embassy in Iran has been completely suspended.
He noted that the decision to evacuate the embassy staff was made by Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev. “Regarding the security issue, we have neither hope nor trust in the Iranian side,” he said. According to him, the decision to suspend the activity of Azerbaijan’s embassy in Iran does not apply to the work of the consulate general in Tabriz.
