Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that the Armenian side “must cease the abuse of the European Union civilian observation mission to heighten tensions in the region and to conceal its military provocations.”

“It is necessary that the presence of the said mission in Armenia not become a pretext for Armenia to refuse to fulfil its undertaken obligations,” read the statement by Azerbaijan’s MFA.

Earlier, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its president had expressed dissatisfaction regarding the deployment of the European Union mission on Armenian territory.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, speaking at a press conference in Berlin on March 15 following negotiations with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, had said, in particular:

“A European Union civilian mission is operating in Armenia. Germany supports that mission, which is led by a representative of our country.”
