US President Joe Biden has had a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin and has proposed a meeting, the White House has announced.
As the US White House reports, Biden called on Moscow to reduce tensions in its relations with Kyiv. He expressed concern over “the sudden increase of military forces in Russia-annexed Crimea and on the border with Ukraine.”
Biden also raised the issue of interference in American elections and cyberattacks. According to the statement, Biden made it clear that “the United States will act in defence of its national interests when responding to Russia’s actions, such as cyberattacks and election interference.”
The two leaders confirmed their intention to hold a dialogue on arms control issues on the basis of the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, which was recently extended.
The US President also affirmed that he seeks to build stable and predictable relations with Russia, and proposed organising a summit meeting in a third country to discuss all issues of concern to the United States and Russia.
