The European Union is calling on Armenia and Azerbaijan to take advantage of the “historic opportunity” to resolve their differences and return to the negotiating table.
“We call on the leaders of the two countries to use this historic opportunity to finally resolve this conflict and return to meaningful dialogue,” said Oliver Varhelyi, European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, during discussions at the European Parliament plenary session regarding relations between Baku and Brussels.
“Very important issues require urgent solutions,” the Commissioner stressed.
Varhelyi expressed full support for the efforts of European Council President Charles Michel, which are aimed at all issues related to the peaceful process of dialogue between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia, including the future peace treaty and border demarcation.
According to the European Commissioner, the European Union has deployed a mission in Armenia (EUMA) “to reduce tensions and support the peace process.”
“This is an important step for strengthening stability and reinforcing the European Union’s role in the region,” said Varhelyi.
