During a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron, US President Donald Trump stated that he could have a meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and did not rule out that such a meeting could still take place.
The leader of the United States emphasized that this could happen only under “the right set of circumstances.”
“If the circumstances are right, I would agree to meet with Rouhani,” Trump said, adding that he considers the Iranian president “a great negotiator” and the Iranians “great people.”
Trump expressed the opinion that the Iranian authorities want to “fix the situation,” because the sanctions are causing them “tremendous damage.”
