Russia is closely following reports of the possible establishment of a Turkish military base in Azerbaijan. This was stated by Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov, TASS reports.
“Undoubtedly, this issue is at the centre of our attention. The deployment of military infrastructure of NATO member countries near our borders is a matter of our special attention, as well as a reason for the steps we will take, which are necessary to ensure our security and interests,” he said.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov declined to comment on that information, calling it a discrepancy.
Let us recall that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had not ruled out that within the framework of the Shushi Declaration signed in Azerbaijan, there could be talk of establishing a military base for Turkey’s Armed Forces on Azerbaijani territory.
