Masoud Barzani, the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in Iraq, has appealed to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov with a request to protect the Kurds in Syria, Rudaw has reported.
The source also noted that Barzani, who is the former president of Iraqi Kurdistan, expressed his concern to the Russian foreign minister regarding the future of the Kurds in Syria. “He asked Russia to intervene to prevent the suffering of this people in Syria,” the statement said.
On 7 October it became known that the United States had refused to support Turkish military operations in Syria. At the same time, US armed forces will no longer be positioned near the area of operation.
