The dangers of nuclear war are now very real, this danger cannot be underestimated, and there are many who are ready to artificially inflate this threat. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
He recalled that in January, the countries of the “nuclear five” reaffirmed the thesis about the inadmissibility of the use of these weapons.
“This is our principled position, we proceed from it, and now I would not want, when… the dangers are truly many and significant, for these dangers to be artificially inflated. The danger is serious, it is real, it cannot be underestimated,” said the head of Russian diplomacy.
He also expressed hope that Western countries will not send their troops to Ukraine.
“Under no circumstances should we allow a Third World War. In this context are viewed the constant provocations of Zelensky and his group, who demand that NATO troops be brought in to protect the Ukrainian government. And everyone always says that they will give weapons, which, of course, also pours oil on the fire. With these arms supplies, they want to force the Ukrainians to fight Russia to the last soldier, if only this conflict would last longer, if only Russia would suffer more and more from it, which is what they hope for,” said Lavrov.
At the same time, he noted that all leaders of NATO countries exclude the alliance’s involvement in a direct clash with Russia, with the exception of the leadership of Poland.
Regarding Lavrov’s statements, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby, for his part, said on CNN that the United States sees no reason for the Ukrainian conflict to turn into a nuclear one and will not change the readiness level of its deterrent forces.
“I agree with Mr. Lavrov that there can be no winners in a nuclear war, and it must not be started. There is no reason to bring the current conflict in Ukraine to that (nuclear) level. As I said earlier, we are watching the situation very carefully. We do not see anything that would force us to change the readiness level of our strategic nuclear deterrent forces, our readiness to defend our country and our allies,” he said.
