Emmanuel Macron has won the second round of the presidential elections. According to preliminary data, the incumbent president received 58.2 percent of the votes. His rival, the leader of the National Rally party, Marine Le Pen, received 41.8 percent of the vote. This is the highest result for far-right forces.
The centre-right forces did not make it through. Public opinion polls until the last moment pointed to Macron’s victory, but there was a danger that Marine Le Pen would come to power.
It is noted that the second round of the elections was marked by a low turnout.
