Moscow is ready to provide a platform for a meeting between Syrian President Bashar Assad and Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, if the parties express mutual desire. This was stated by Russian President’s Special Representative for Syria Alexander Lavrentiev in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“Such a meeting has exceptional importance, but it must be prepared in an appropriate manner, and certain conditions must mature for that,” noted the Russian President’s Special Representative.

As Lavrentiev emphasized, it is important that the results of that meeting send the right signals to all parties to the conflict, so that it contributes to the Syrian settlement.

Earlier, Erdogan had announced a possible meeting with Syrian President Bashar Assad. Afterwards, Abdulqadir Selvi, a columnist for the Turkish newspaper “Hürriyet” close to government circles, stated that the meeting of the presidents could take place in Russia, with Vladimir Putin’s mediation.
