The influential American periodical New York Times has covered the political escalation that has begun in Armenia these days.
In particular, the periodical has covered the National Assembly’s approval of the motions to strip the leader of the largest opposition party, Gagik Tsarukyan, of his parliamentary immunity and to arrest him.
The publication notes that the leader of the Prosperous Armenia party, Gagik Tsarukyan, is one of Armenia’s wealthiest businessmen and denies having committed any wrongdoing, declaring that the action against him has political motives.
The publication presents in considerable detail the acts attributed to Tsarukyan and the interrogation conducted, viewing this in the context that Tsarukyan recently accused Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and his government of mismanaging the economy and failing to fight the “Corona” viral pandemic properly. It is noted that in Armenia, which has a population of 3 million, there are already 17,499 infected and 293 people dead from the “Corona” virus, and the economy is to contract by 2 percent, instead of the expected 4.9 percent growth.
It is also noted that Pashinyan himself came to power two years ago as a result of a peaceful revolution that took place against corruption.
