No Provision for Checkpoints on Lachin Corridor: Lavrov

The issue of creating checkpoints on the Lachin corridor is not provided for in the 9 November statement. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made this announcement on 28 February during a joint press conference in Baku with Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, responding to Ilham Aliyev’s statement about installing checkpoints on the Lachin and the so-called Zangezur corridors.
“The operating procedure of the Lachin corridor must correspond to the trilateral statement of 9 November 2020. That means ensuring free movement exclusively for civilian persons and humanitarian cargo. That is what we strive for in our contacts. The issue of creating checkpoints is not provided for there (in the 9 November statement—ed.), but there is a possibility of dispelling the doubts that exist through technical devices. We discussed this today; the technical details are of secondary importance,” Lavrov noted.
