French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed deep concern over the large number of fires in Brazil’s Amazon rainforest, calling the situation an “international crisis.” Macron also said that the issue will be discussed during the upcoming summit of the “Group of Seven” (G7).
“Our house is burning. The Amazon forests, which produce 20% of the planet’s oxygen, are burning. What has happened is an international crisis. G7 member countries, let us discuss this issue as a priority,” the president wrote on his Twitter page.
For his part, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also commented on the fires that have broken out in the Amazon forests, noting that he is “deeply concerned” in this regard.
