The presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan, Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev, discussed the situation in the South Caucasus during a telephone conversation. This was stated in a Kremlin communiqué.
“The situation in the South Caucasus was discussed. Consistent steps towards guaranteeing stability and security on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border were deemed important. In this context, the commitment to the unconditional implementation of the entire complex of relevant high-level agreements between Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia was reaffirmed,” the communiqué stated.
Putin and Aliyev also discussed prospects for the further development of trade and economic cooperation, including the implementation of joint programmes in the fields of electricity and communications. An understanding was reached to continue contacts in various formats.
