The UN Security Council issued a statement following a closed discussion on the escalation of the situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone.
The statement reads in particular:
“The members of the UN Security Council are concerned about reports of large-scale military operations along the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone. They strongly condemn the use of force and express regret over the human and civilian casualties.
The members of the UN Security Council supported the Secretary-General’s call to the parties to immediately cease military operations, de-escalate tensions and return without delay to constructive negotiations.
The members of the UN Security Council expressed their full support for the central role of the Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group and called on the parties to cooperate with them for the urgent resumption of dialogue without preconditions.”
