The US Congress has approved Frank Pallone’s proposal to amend the National Defense Authorization Act, which requires ensuring transparency in the Pentagon’s foreign aid programs.
The Armenian National Committee of America reports that the amendment will be included in the package of block documents adopted by the US House of Representatives. The amendment requires the Department of Defense to submit a report to Congress regarding the US military aid program.
This report will also include recommendations aimed at improving human rights training and additional measures that can be taken to prevent such violations.
As expert Suren Sargsyan noted, although Azerbaijan is not mentioned in the document, it is entirely related to US-Azerbaijan relations. He recalled that over the past 2 years, Azerbaijan has received $100 million in military aid from the US.
