US Library of Congress to Use ‘Armenian Genocide’ Heading Instead of ‘Armenian Massacres’

The US Library of Congress has decided that books and other materials currently classified under the heading “Armenian Massacres” will henceforth be classified under the heading “Armenian Genocide.” The Library of Congress took this decision thanks to a campaign launched by the Armenian National Committee of America and several members of Congress. US Congressmen Adam Schiff, Gus Bilirakis, Dina Titus, Frank Pallone, Jackie Speier and Senator Bob Menendez sent letters to the Library of Congress calling for such a change. US Congressmen Adam Schiff, Gus Bilirakis, Dina Titus, Frank Pallone, Jackie Speier and Senator Bob Menendez sent letters to the Library of Congress calling for such a change.

The University of California, Los Angeles also played a major role in this change, sending an official request to the Library of Congress last month.

The congressmen welcomed the Library of Congress’s decision, noting that the use of the term “Armenian Genocide” reflects the true picture of history.
