Russia is ready to take new retaliatory measures against the US if the latter continues along the path of escalation. According to the TASS agency, this was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during the broadcast of “Moscow. Kremlin. Putin.”
“Everything has been said in our response to the Americans’ latest unfriendly steps. We have announced all the measures that we have taken and are still ready to take if the escalation continues,” the minister said.
Lavrov at the same time noted that Moscow has responded positively to Washington’s proposal regarding a meeting between the presidents of Russia and the US, and is now studying that possibility.
US President Joe Biden had expressed a desire to hold a meeting with Putin on 15 April, during a telephone conversation with the latter. Biden had proposed holding a summit in Europe in the summer.
Russian-American relations were strained after the US president’s interview, during which he had called his Russian counterpart a “killer,” noting that he “would pay a price” for interfering in the US presidential elections. Then, hours after expressing a desire to meet with Putin, Biden signed a decree imposing sanctions against Moscow.
