On 7 December, the Eastern Mediterranean workshop organized by the International Universities Council took place at Turkey’s Mediterranean University, with the participation of Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu. This was reported by “Ermenihaber.”
He touched upon the latest regional developments and unresolved issues. In Çavuşoğlu’s observation, the main cause of all regional problems is the inability to share, and the attempt to take the whole instead of sharing.
“Look at the Caucasus. Instead of benefiting from the Caucasus’s stability and economic development, because of Armenia, which wanted to continue the occupation of Azerbaijan’s territories, as well as because of the international system, which was not in favor of a diplomatic solution, the problem continued for about 30 years,” he said.
Çavuşoğlu then, referring to Turkey’s “multi-faceted policy and the possibilities of solving problems through all channels,” said.
“We do not have the perception that we are strong on the battlefield and around the negotiating table on the Libya issue. We are strong in the Eastern Mediterranean and we want the whole. We have no designs on Armenia’s lands. Now we also say that this settlement will be in the interest of Armenia and the Armenian people. That is why we are in favor of a fair division (sharing). We are strong both morally and legally, and we will continue to apply that strength in the upcoming process for the benefit of all.”
