A new variant of the coronavirus could emerge in the world that could be more dangerous than the Delta variant, World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has said, speaking at the 138th session of the International Olympic Committee.
According to him, the new strain could lead to further spread of infection around the world.
“The more the coronavirus spreads, the more variants emerge with the potential to become more dangerous than Delta, which is now causing so much damage. And the more variants there are, the higher the likelihood that one of them will not be affected by vaccines and will return us to the initial state,” the WHO chief explained.
Ghebreyesus explained that an “unprecedented crisis” is now being observed, which requires “unprecedented measures.
