Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has stated that a political solution to the Karabakh conflict is possible and has explained how. The Russian Foreign Minister made this statement in an interview given to the radio stations “Sputnik,” “Komsomolskaya Pravda,” and “Moscow Speaks.”
According to Lavrov, the proposals that the co-chairs have developed and continue to develop remain on the negotiating table.
Namely:
-The phased withdrawal of Armenian forces from the five districts around Karabakh, with the preservation of security guarantees for Karabakh and the provision of a reliable connection between Armenia and Karabakh, until the final status of Karabakh is determined.
-The subsequent liberation of two more districts and the determination of Karabakh’s status.
-The peace of Nagorno-Karabakh throughout this entire period will also be maintained with the help of peacekeepers.
“Now these sad events should help to invigorate those processes, in parallel with the resolution of local security issues,” Lavrov said.
