Bob Avian, Broadway’s Last Armenian Star, Passes Away

Armenian-American dance instructor, theatrical producer and director Robert Avetisyan, known by the name Bob Avian, has passed away. The New York Times reports that the participant in some of Broadway’s biggest shows of the last 60 years, laureate of the Tony and other prestigious awards, who created an entire era, also dancing in a number of his own productions, has passed away. Armenian-American dance instructor, theatrical producer and director Robert Avetisyan, known by the name Bob Avian, has passed away.

The New York Times reports that the participant in some of Broadway’s biggest shows of the last 60 years, laureate of the Tony and other prestigious awards, who created an entire era, also dancing in a number of his own productions, has passed away.

Bob Avian also staged productions in London, and the book “The Dancing Man” was written about him.

The Armenian dance instructor died at the age of 83 of cardiac arrest. The news of his death was also reported by The Guardian, The Hollywood Reporter and other notable newspapers. Bob Avian was the last Armenian star to play a major role in the successes of the famous theatrical world of New York’s Broadway district.
