A curfew going into effect this evening in New York City will continue until the end of the week. According to CNN, this was announced by New York Mayor Bill de Blasio.
The curfew is in effect daily from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. “We will not tolerate any violence. We will not tolerate attacks on police officers. We will not tolerate the sowing of hatred,” said de Blasio.
It should be recalled that a curfew has been imposed in a number of cities across the United States, owing to the large numbers of protesters who have taken to the streets following the killing of George Floyd, a Black man, and who are also committing acts of disorder and destruction in the streets.
George Floyd, a Black man, was suffocated to death during an arrest by Derek Chauvin, a former Minneapolis police officer, who is now under arrest. Thousands of protesters in various cities are demanding the harshest punishment for Chauvin.
