A draft resolution on honoring the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide has been registered in Ukraine’s parliament. As reported by AnalitikaUA.net, the legislative initiative of Ukrainian People’s Deputy Dariya Volodina from the “Servant of the People” party regarding honoring the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide was registered on 14 February (No. 3070, 02/14/2020).
In his commentary, the head of the Union of Armenians of Ukraine, Vilen Shatvoryan, called the deputy’s initiative an important step that testifies to a consistent commitment to the ideals of humanity, truth and justice.
The periodical reminds that this is already the fourth legislative initiative over the past 10 years. Recently, Anton Polyakov, a deputy of the “Servant of the People” party, had registered a draft resolution on the recognition of the genocide of the Armenian people (No. 2376, 05.11.2019). On 6 June 2013, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine registered a draft resolution on recognizing the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire in 1915. The initiators of bill No. 2254a were Ukrainian People’s Deputies Vilen Shatvoryan, Arsen Avakov and Nver Mkhitaryan. And on 3 April 2015, the Verkhovna Rada registered for the second time a draft resolution by deputy Vitaly Barvinenko on recognizing the Armenian Genocide (No. 2530, 04/03/2015). At that time, dozens of deputies had joined the parliamentary initiative.
