The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, have had a telephone conversation. Among other matters, the parties also addressed the issue of ensuring security in Nagorno-Karabakh.
“The topic of ensuring stability and security in Nagorno-Karabakh was also addressed, including in light of the recent contacts between Vladimir Putin and Charles Michel with the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan,” the Kremlin press service reports.
The statement also says: “The fundamental importance of the consistent implementation of the trilateral agreements of 9 November 2020, 11 January 2021 and 26 November 2021 between Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia was reaffirmed. In this context, the President of Russia informed about the steps being taken towards the implementation of programmes to restore economic and transport links, as well as the start of negotiations on the delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and a peace treaty between the two countries.”
The office of the President of the European Council has not yet released details about the telephone conversation.
Official Moscow had stated the previous day that Brussels wants to wrest mediation in the Armenian-Azerbaijani reconciliation process away from Russia.
